dalek r2d2 work

dalek r2d2 work, originally uploaded by jckirner.
Starting to embellish, now, the batik panels created from the idea in MrXstitch's "Forbidden Love" chart. It's fun!

I like the problem solving aspect - adapting when unexpected outcomes occur. Such as a motif is too small, or a color combination goes awry, or the mood of the piece starts getting static/boring. Walking the line between a manufactured piece and an inspired piece!!

Learning, learning, learning....

A delight

A delight, originally uploaded by jckirner.
And a fairly quick finish today. An upgraded needle roll similar to this one. Same machine cordings, but using the graduated color way. Inside is stitched to wool blanket felt and flannel rather than craft store cheap felt and a ColorCatcher sheet.

Cord gradation

And I didn't really need a new needle roll - kinda' just happened after some disasterous batik outcomes (does gutta go off ?- it's just not performing as well as it has in the past) and perhaps a bit of avoidance activity after staring at Mr Dalek and R2D2 - they're partially stitched anyhoo.

Yep - it's for needles

Is it too early?

Is it too early?, originally uploaded by jckirner.

Enamored, as I am lately, with all things gutta, paint and fabric. I leapfrogged away from Halloween-y things ahead to Christmas.

My ornament prototype! That rolled edge on a curve had me into my "shoot me now" mindset - very fiddly on a smaller scale, with a curve and slightly undersized margins to roll. Heh heh. Sure I could zip around the edges with a machine zig zag, but I like the scale of the big stitches and the randomness of the spacing.

Yep - Modern Batik Xmas ornaments - my next addiction!

Day 2 R2

dalek heart r2d2, originally uploaded by jckirner.
Mr. Dalek washed out beautifully - gutta resist is removed.

Moving on to the rest of MrXStitch design "Forbidden Love" - the heart and R2D2. They're now in drying phase...

mr xstitch dalek batik

mr xstitch dalek batik, originally uploaded by jckirner.
I'm in wait mode as things need to dry before the next steps.

From a cross-stitch design in MrXStitch's etsy shop "Forbidden Love" dalek and R2D2 robots - heh, heh. Just tickled my funny bone.

But I'm less interested in following a charted design so much these days - so I'm playing with my Modern Batik instead.

And the threads painted too - cotton and rayon. (Note how the rayon sags and stretches when wet!!) Waiting and seeing if the threads will still be usable once dry, or will the hand be affected by the dynaflows?

Pirate pillow

Pirate pillow, originally uploaded by jckirner.

My daughter loves Halloween. She'd celebrate year 'round!!

Tho' I try to keep the festive home decor to October - for the most part.

The FINISHED Pirate Wall Pillow fit right in with her display this month.

An impromptu hike with friends on Friday.

The result of a break in the weather.

A swelter free day is cause to celebrate the outside!!
