Spiked heart

Spiked heart 2, originally uploaded by jckirner.

Messin' around again with things fiber, paint and stitch.

That's a welcome event after a week of icky virus stuff that blew through the household - (should've foretold that by the grumpy moods last weekend, myself included!!)

I love visuals of this Spiked Heart as it was in process.
Is it a Voodoo Heart? Or the heart of one SO unlucky in love?
Or of one with many trials and tribulations.

At any rate - what worked on the design board I did not manage to stitch into fruition - and I will have to come up with a work around for this technique.

No problem.

That's the part I enjoy!!

And too rigid still

Feeling a push-pull today.

I"m making/creating and headed towards what my mind sees

Yet the methods are resulting in too rigid a result.

and I get mad at myself

Well Harrumph.....

I am not a hand model

I am not a hand/arm model...

and hairless

...because you know we're supposed to be thin...

Active

everyone else did

Posting pictures of feet - as many other blogs have done.
Here's mine from atop the tower at Gumbo Limbo park - Gina of claynfiber and I trekked there on Tuesday to catch up and do some sketching...

Result

okay - ONE sketch!!

Inspiration

mine based on the above view... a semi-blind contour with some scribbly bits and a  dash of color (colour) and ink.

And the sun that day - appreciated after a completely fogged in morning - contrasted with Wednesday's chilly front that moved in.

Beach and photo walk

This time a photo and exercise walk on the beach with another buddy.

Cold and sandy

There's those dang feet again - okay - I'm over it - no more foot pics for me.

Conditions

Yellow flag conditions - and warmer in the ocean than the air.
(We took their word for it and didn't touch the water to compare.)

sky brightening

Returning to the parking lot the sky brightens a bit.

The news was reporting Florida as the only state with no snow.
Good news to me!

Simple stitching

Soft and simple repetition

Little round yo-yo's stitched at a gathering of friends yesterday.

Simple repetition

Something gentle and mindless to do while easing into the new year.

Su Ann's flower sticks

And SuAnn's gifties - little flower face sticks (she shares much with us - she who can't sit still)

Handy Pot

And back on the home front - Xmas decor is away - and the 'hand'y pot greets all who arrive.

Relaxation in Repetition

Relaxation in Repetition, originally uploaded by jckirner.

Idly mark making, last evening, while (whilst?) watching repeats on TV.

It's funny - looking at the image I can remember the shows I saw:

an old Rockford Files
a repeat of Lie to Me

a pause to play Pokemon with my daughter (highly prized)

then American Pickers, Pawn Stars
and a documentary on the production woes due to the rift on American Chopper.

Actually - I only heard all these shows as I colored and drew, with brief glimpses over the reading glasses at the action going onscreen.

Used daily

On my desk

Working a bit more with this month's theme on The Sketchbook Challenge : Highly Prized

Items used daily are my spotted reading glasses (yup - I should hoist myself up from this chair and go grab the proper glasses in the living room, but I use these craft store ones instead), my faux gilded mini-scissors, and the digital camera.

Oooo - with coffee this morning I browsed the flickr slideshow from the sketchbook challenge group in full screen -- truly enjoyable. Rather than hunched over the desk with mouse clicking wildly forward I was leaning back sipping away as the images flew by.  Now to add music!!!

Still in tell-a-story photo mode - my other pic of my daily page included the glasses....

And thankfully, I was successful yesterday, in mending the sewing machine. It gave me fits and starts when making cording for gift bags and refused to play nice. Using STT (standard troubleshooting techniques - an abbreviation from my electronic technician days) I tracked it down to 1) dirt, 2) bent needle, and 3) impatience.

Warming Up

Warming Up, originally uploaded by jckirner.
Happy New Year!

Starting the first day of the year with a new project: The Sketchbook Challenge.

In this case I started off with sketch altering rather than jumping right onto the blank page.

Saving a colored page from a decorated mailing box (seriously, artists create the best boxes...that's a future blog post in itself!!), I opened up the dusty drawer of tools to enhance this face.

'Coz after all, it's about having fun!
