Years end - Thrift Share Monday

I had challenged my sister-in-law to a $5 thrifted gift exchange.
She did marvelously! (It's those who know you best who can choose terrific gifties for you!)
She found me a Florida author (I love regional writers) to try, increased my gaudy tropical mug collection, spied a nifty pad of post it notes (that little black book), a few napkins to reuse, and a tea strainer. That strainer'll come in handy to try the new teas in my stocking.
(I am expanding my tea knowledge after watching this show)

Pyrex Butterfly Gold pitcher, 1950's Anchor Hocking Wrought Iron pitcher

The holidays had us swamped with house guests, visitors and activities.
I'm ready for a quiet few weeks in the New Year!
A bit of thrifting was squeezed into the chaos, too.

Georges Briard commemorative Knights of Pythias glass tray/dish/plate

Mr Bartender Drink mixer glass, Franciscan starburst mug, 1980's Boynton mug

Somehow I'm coming home with more glass and breakables lately!!

Wishing everyone has a pleasant New Years Eve & Day!

to cook, to craft, to build - Thrift Share Monday

Fire King Gay Fad ? hand painted casserole
I popped into a thrift shop tied to a local hospital last week. It's out of my usual driving routes so I don't get there too frequently.

Fire King casserole
They're known for their designer clothing boutique (I've not ventured in there, yet!), and for their generous discounts which enables frequent stock turnover.

The Fire King casserole dish is in great shape - I think it's the Gay Fad painted style - but I've not seen them in the clear dishes before.

Leewards Autumn Beauty Crewel kit
It surprised me to find the still sealed crewel kit above. LeeWards is a now defunct craft store chain that I remember from my Michigan days.

Entek Loc Blocs Magic Kingdom Castle set

I'm still assembling the Magic Kingdom castle to gauge the missing pieces. Sadly the box is in shabby shape and Mickey and Minnie figures are gone. The wordless directions are in black and white - Challenging me to replicate the box version without color guides!!

Books and a Doberman plate

And a couple of books to peruse - Far Side comics and scary stories collection  are for us - the Sotheby's catalog is ebay bound, as well as the Doberman plate.

Hope everyone is relaxing into this Christmas week (for those who observe the holiday!)...

Spending sleepless evenings with the TV cutting snowflakes from magazine pages....

Merry Christmas everyone!

Yes - there's been thrifting -

Groovy Woodsman Santa Anchor Hocking Jar

Just not a lot of thrifting

Mode Danish Starburst Atomic-y flatware

What with the Thanksgiving week and some visitors

Joan Walsh Anglund heart shaped trinket box

Followed by someone's 13th birthday

Strawberry Shortcake Custard Cat Anchor Hocking jar

And a trip away for the weekend to Epcot in Orlando

Walt Disney World Epcot's Spaceship Earth

Narrowly escaping the crush of crowds at Walt Disney World's Magic Kingdom
(the taping of the Christmas Holiday parade with Justin Bieber pushed the park to near capacity crowds - ick)

Someone turned 13

We enjoyed, instead, a leisurely day at Epcot with much more comfortable people levels.
(And amused by several wedding party groups who were touring 'round the World in various Ugly Christmas Sweaters)

Yarn snowballs form a tree at Epcot's Norway pavilion

While the new teenager explored the cel phone interactive gizmos within this Norway pavilion - I spotted this winter display window. Love that use of yarn!!

Returned home to the real world and another weekend of visitors. Phewph.

I get this weekend off!!
