Coiled shell

coiled shell, originally uploaded by jckirner.

Resuming weekly beach walks with a friend...and have this great treasure!
Lots of whole shells found on our last foray - this one had to come home. I'm fascinated by the rippled underside edges of the coil and by the point of light that shines through the center.
I keep picking it up and holding it up to the light trying to suss the inner structure!

  1. Beautiful - I love shells! I like to collect broken ones so I can see inside.

I've just noticed your profile says 'too many hamsters' - we just have one but he has lately become the master of the midnight escape... so one too many!

  2. Ah yes, the hamsters. Four boys turned out to be 3 boys and a girl. Then became 7 hamsters, then 15!! We're happy to be down to 10.

  3. Definitely way too many hamsters for me! The shell is just amazing. What beach did you find it on?

  4. Hi Barb! yep, 6 cages solved the endless hamster reproduction & brawling - there's the reason behind the name "one eye" ;) (and multiple trips to the vet to get the boys and girls separated)

The shell came from somewhere on one of the Boca Raton beaches
