I'm excited to trade this fiber postcard with one of Susan Lenz's offerings for her Cyber Fyber exhibition. http://www.cyberfyberexhibition.blogspot.com/ It's a terrific idea to highlight the supportive community of internet fiber artists. Through blogs, websites, groups many ideas, processes, and finished projects are shared, discussed, lamented, celebrated.
I made this over the summer with my rusted muslin base discharged with lemon slices in the Florida sun. This was fused down to Peltex, then overlayed with fused muslin slices and a fused segment of chiffon scarf. A touch of machine stitching then strategic scorching with the heat gun. Pics of the process on my Flickr site under the set "postcards".
On a side note - it was through a failed attempt to find local fiber classes/workshops that I ended up in the mixed media collage/assemblage world. The fiber class a friend and I'd signed up for didn't meet quota and was cancelled. Desperate to still take some creative course we were steered towards the collage/mixed media class. OH! what joy! At the same time we were independently exploring techniques in Maggie Grey & Jane Wild's "Paper, Metal, Stitch". The collage classes and book were a match made in heaven!
